One disadvantage to digital cameras, they are more expensive. A hard drive camcorder can run you upwards of $400 or a bit more. You can also get one that uses SD and XD memory cards, the same ones your still digital camera uses. These cameras tend to be a bit cheaper, but no less useful than the more expensive ones.

When looking for a camera, it's always best to know what you need it for. What types of films will you be making? Do you want the ease and convenience of digital? Or would you prefer the look and feel of film or tape cameras?

Tiger Woods Blows it for Himself and the PGA

In a very interesting and atypical twist today, Tiger Woods blew a lead entering the final round of the PGA Championships, losing to Y.E. Yang, a relatively unknown golfer. Woods had simply never lost a major after leading or being tied for the lead, and the world was shocked after witnessing today's events.

Is this good? I don't really think so. The PGA heavily relies on Tiger Woods and the sentiment on the street is that Woods simply isn't effective as he was, and may never be again.

Tiger hasn't lost it, he's won 5 tournaments this year, coming from 5 strokes back on Sunday to win one, and coming back from 8 shots down Thursday to win by 3 strokes on Sunday. But, as I said, casual golf fans don't get that. In fact, most sports fans probably don't get that because he hasn't performed in the biggest events, the Majors, the moneymakers, the events that pull in the biggest ratings.

While everyone loves to talk about Yang and what he did today, this was a crippling blow to the PGA in 2009. There were simply no exciting stories that capped off the year of majors. Tom Watson nearly became the oldest golfer (by far) to ever win a major, before losing it on the final day. Woods went the entire year without a major, virtually unheard of during his career.

Yet, this pushes it to another level. You're talking about the greatest golfer on Earth, losing to some no-name from South Korea who probably won't win another major. If Tiger had won, it would've given hope to next year, a hope maybe he finally does what he was destined to do, win all the major in the same year and pass Jack Nicklaus for the most Major wins ever.

And for the 2009 golf season, there's not exactly much that fans can look forward to at this point. Will a Fedex Cup tournament excite them? Not exactly. There's really not much to look for.

We need the Tiger, the best golfer, to be well, the best golfer. He needs to hold leads on Sunday. He needs people to be scared on the last few holes with Tiger on the prowl. We need Tiger Woods to dominate everybody and ask questions later. If he's labeled the best, he needs to start performing in the biggest and best events.

Here's to hoping that 2010 brings us a Tiger resurgence, and most notably, a major or two. The sport really needs it.

Brett Favre? Really?

It's amazing. Just when he was officially retired once again, Brett Favre "un-retired", agreeing to come back to Minnesota for two more years of football. This move is getting all kinds of media attention and generating excitement in Minnesota, but I really don't see the big deal.

Favre will be 40 in October. How many quarterbacks lead their teams to Super Bowls at 40. He's as durable as they come and he's showed great longevity through his career, but still...

He's coming off some bicep surgery. He also has a torn rotator cuff. His body is obviously starting to give, and between the quickness one loses as they age, the strength they lose as they age, their increased recovery time, and their susceptibility to injuries, Favre seems like he has a high chance of disaster during these next two seasons.

In New York last season, Favre began to taper later in the season. Many interceptions and much inconsistency cost the Jets a few games. Favre's 9 INTs during the final five weeks of the season were far more than Tarvaris Jackson's 1 INT during the final four weeks of the season. Who's to say that Favre is a better option?

Then there's the whole issue of team chemistry. It seemed like Jackson had a close bond with his wide receivers. This is a critical element to a team's success. Favre, on the other hand, is coming into a team that he doesn't know, missed an entire training camp, and will have no rapport with any of his receivers.

Aside from his chemistry with the receivers, how about his chemistry with the rest of the team? Last year after the Jets missed the playoffs (largely thanks to Favre's poor play down the stretch), many Jets players, including Thomas Jones, commented about how Favre didn't dress with the team and didn't stay in the same hotel room, among other things. Oh yeah, Favre seems like a real team player. Just the kind of guy I want to be the leader of my team. The Vikings were already "expecting" a playoff berth and were even considered one of the top teams in the NFC, without Favre leading the team. With the addition of Favre, many people have elevated the Vikings to Super Bowl contender status, which I believe is preposterous. As I showed earlier, Favre faded down the stretch. So what does that mean about the playoffs? He hasn't been very good in the playoffs recently, and if the Vikings don't win the Super Bowl, or at least make it there, the season will be considered a bust, and the Favre acquisition a waste. I mean, they already have arguably the best running game in the NFL and the best run defense in the NFL, so they have the foundation for a playoff team in place. If Favre can't get them a Super Bowl, and only gets them into the playoffs, then what was the point of adding Favre in the first place?

I understand where the Vikings are coming from. They probably won't contend without Favre. This will increase ratings, sell more tickets, and might give them a shot to go big this year, but I don't think he's the future in Minnesota and you have to wonder what they'll do after him.

To wrap it up, I believe Favre will not be a good addition to the Vikings because of his age/injury risk, his deteriorating arm strength and skills as a QB, and his inconsistency. Not to mention, he won't be able to develop any chemistry with his receivers, and if they don't win the Super Bowl this year, it would be a huge setback for the Vikings' organization. Honestly, it seems like Favre signed with the Vikings out of spite. Heck, just about a month ago, Favre said he wasn't going to play this season because "he didn't think he could perform at a high level." Uh huh. So what has changed? Aside from the fact that he now has a slight tear in his rotator cuff. While I still think Favre is one of the best QB's ever, I feel like this whole situation has somewhat tainted his brilliant career. I really do hope he does well because I don't want to see him fall flat on his face. I want to see him go out on top, but with Favre constantly "un-retiring," I think he never will.

Tiger Woods Blows it for Himself and the PGA

Golf fans were all stunned today when Tiger Woods was defeated by an unknown Y.E. Yang at the PGA championship. The lead was all Tiger's, and to have seen him blow it, well, many weren't expecting it to put it lightly. Yang is the first ever Asian golfer to ever win a major event, and this is the first time Tiger Woods ever lost a major on the last day after having held the lead.

Is this good? I don't really think so. The PGA heavily relies on Tiger Woods and the sentiment on the street is that Woods simply isn't effective as he was, and may never be again.

Woods is by no means past his prime. After returning from an injury that ended his 2008 campaign, Woods has bounced back with wins at five tournaments. Some of these involved some vintage Woods Sunday comebacks. Unfortunately, the majors are far more watched than the other tournaments, so the typical sports fan doesn't realize that all's not lost in Tiger's corner.

While everyone loves to talk about Yang and what he did today, this was a crippling blow to the PGA in 2009. There were simply no exciting stories that capped off the year of majors. Tom Watson nearly became the oldest golfer (by far) to ever win a major, before losing it on the final day. Woods went the entire year without a major, virtually unheard of during his career.

Yang will probably make few headlines anytime soon, and the once "sure prospect" of Woods beating Jack Nicklaus' record for majors one is suddenly not such a sure thing anymore.

While there are a few more months of golf left, there are no majors, and only serious golf enthusiasts will track these events. Fringe fans will go back to watching other sports, and will be far from enthused about the 2010 golf season.

Tiger must bounce back in 2009. He is the face of the PGA, and any story lines lacking Tiger Woods will do anything but help the sport grow.

Here's to hoping that 2010 brings us a Tiger resurgence, and most notably, a major or two. The sport really needs it.
